For Elite Maintenance Services Central Coast, cleaning carpets is just the beginning, as their ability to assess and repair flood devastated flooring in homes is helping thousands of Central Coast residents after devastating storms.

April 2015 saw some of the worst storms on the Central Coast in over a decade, leaving more than 5,000 residents without power and with damage to their homes.

As carpet experts, Kerrie and Phil Spindler are often the first port of call to help with carpet restoration. They are no stranger to the removal, drying and cleaning of waterlogged carpets, and are regularly relied upon by insurance agents for in-depth assessments of homes leading to the removal and replacement of carpet.

With a long history of pest control and maintenance, Phil is well versed in repairing homes and finding unique ways of solving problems, giving him an advantage over other installers. “Where others have said a job can’t be done, I’ve generally found a way with a creative solution”, said Phil about his approach to installing, stretching and repairing carpets.

Depending on the origin of the water and the severity of the flooding, Phil has a few options to fix your carpets. If it’s the result of a storm, an insurance agent will contact Phil and he’ll inspect the damage to your home. He’ll write a comprehensive report to make it easier for the insurance company to process and action your repairs and then get started. In most cases the carpet needs to be replaced so Phil will extract the water (sometimes up to 150 litres), remove it from the home, dry the concrete and treat it for mildew before preparing for new underlay and carpet to be installed.

Should the water come from a burst pipe or clean water source, the carpet may just require drying and reinstallation. In both cases, if all rooms are affected, it means the owner will need to temporarily relocate. If there are no structural repairs required to the home, owners can be back within a week, but in more drastic cases it can be up to 12 weeks.

No matter the source of the water, the process is always taxing on owners. “I remember one client who was distraught over a pipe in the kitchen bursting”, says Phil. “She was really upset so we consoled her, reminded her the job was covered under insurance and next thing we knew we were all having a quiet midnight drink together on soggy carpet”.

Of course this isn’t the only way Kerrie and Phil help the region. Over 12 years ago, Phil helped start and run a regular snooker competition called Cueing for Kids, which supports the children’s wings of the two local hospitals. To date the cause has raised over $20,000 to support the hospitals and is just another way Elite is supporting the community and keeping much needed funds on the Central Coast.
