This not-for-profit organisation is dedicated to the rescue and relocation of native Australian animals in distress.
The Role of WIRES
WIRES operates by responding to various situations involving native wildlife, such as:
- Relocating orphaned animals after car accidents
- Retrieving animals in distress
- Caring for sick and viable animals until they can be safely returned to the wild
Having supported WIRES for several years, Pamela serves as the chairperson for the Bathurst region. It is not uncommon for them to temporarily house native animals, such as a wallaroo and a microbat, while they assist in their rehabilitation and eventual return to their natural habitat.
Community Fundraising Efforts
When WIRES sought help from volunteers and members, Steve and Pamela were quick to contribute by supporting a fundraising trivia night. They generously donated a highly sought-after prize: free carpet cleaning for an entire home, valued up to $400. This prize ensures that the winner can enjoy clean and sanitised carpets without incurring additional costs.
The trivia night proved to be a resounding success, raising over $2,000 for WIRES, thanks to the support of hundreds of local animal lovers. With all prizes, food, and venue costs donated, every dollar raised directly benefited the organisation.
Impact on Wildlife Management
Steve and Pamela's shared passion for preserving native wildlife has fostered a strong community spirit. The recent introduction of a new app by WIRES aims to enhance the management of community callouts, making fundraising initiatives like the trivia night even more impactful for wildlife rescue efforts.
