The pink elephant in the room aka that dark stain
Stains always tend to happen at the worst time or on the surfaces you want to keep the cleanest. Other than living in a bubble, there’s no way to stop them but with help and advice from Steve at Elite Carpet Cleaning Southside Brisbane, you’ll be able to keep your carpets, lounge and upholstery as clean and fresh as possible for as long as possible.
Tip 1. Clean your carpets regularly
As a general rule, you should clean your carpet every 6-12 months depending on the amount of traffic ie: a hectic home or commercial property should be cleaned every 6 months while a quiet home is cleaned annually. The main reason for this is the removal of sand and dirt from the fibres; as these make their way into the fibres, pressure and movement grinds away the fibres quickly, reducing the quality and, in some instances, the colour. Also, removing stains properly and early will help reduce the likelihood of permanent discolouration.
Tip 2. Use carpet protection with every second clean
Carpet protection solutions, such as Elite Carpet Protection (ECP), should be used regularly to coat the fibres with a teflon-like layer which makes general cleaning and maintenance easy. ECP is a water based solution that soaks into and coats the carpet fibres to repel dirt, sand and dust so your vacuum cleaner can remove dirt more efficiently and keep your floors cleaner, longer. It also makes your carpet resistant to stains because the liquids have difficulty binding to the fibres, giving you more time to remove the spill with a damp cloth with a greater chance of success.
Tip 3. Clean your upholstery regularly
We recommend cleaning your upholstery with every second carpet clean or every 12 months. You probably paid a fair bit of money for your lounge so it makes sense to keep it in the best condition possible without stains and odours. Regular cleaning means you’ll be able to clean off accidental spills with more success as less dirt will be caught up in the fibres; plus it means healthier, cleaner furniture in your home.
Tip 4. Use Fabric Guard to keep your upholstery at its best
Elite Fabric Guard (EFG) should be used in between cleans to keep your upholstery clean. Just like Elite’s Carpet Protection, EFG coats the fibres of your upholstery to make them more water resistant, repel stains and make your furniture easier to clean.
Tip 5. Spot clean for hard to remove stains
When it comes to those stubborn stains, look no further than Super Spotter, Elite’s very own heavy duty spot cleaning solution. Water based and pH neutral, we use Super Spotter on almost anything to prime a stain before giving it a professional clean. It can be used on a range of surfaces such as carpets, upholstery and clothing – we’ve even heard of people using it on artificial flowers! Best of all it won’t set the stain, unlike other products. Basically, if the stain sets into the fibres, we’ve got little to no chance of removing it.
