The pre-treatment is applied and left to loosen grease, scum and grime.
Grout lines are agitated so the dirt held inside comes loose.
Hot-water extraction rinses the floor and takes the slurry away.
The floor is left to dry before it is walked on.
Sand is abrasive. Ground into grout by foot traffic, it wears the surface rough, and rough grout traps dirt faster. Regular cleaning keeps that cycle in check, and stops a small problem turning into a regrout.
Why grout goes dark
Grout is porous, so grease, scum and fine dirt soak in below the surface. A mop can’t reach that layer, and its dirty water runs into the joints and dries there. The tiles look clean while the lines between them keep darkening.
