Responding to Cyclone Debbie
One year ago, Shaun played a crucial role in the cleanup following Tropical Cyclone Debbie, one of the most severe cyclones to impact Queensland in over five years. Working long hours, Shaun and his dedicated crew of four managed to assist 40 properties across Mackay in just four days. Among these were twelve high-rise apartments on the marina that urgently required emergency water extraction, and an aged care facility where 150 litres of water needed to be removed from the living room.
“The rain was coming in with such force from the wind, it was hitting windows sideways and forcing its way through gaps in sliding doors,” Shaun explained. “We’ve tried to help as many people as possible, to get their carpets dry and their homes to a livable standard.”
Much of the cleanup was facilitated by generators powering dozens of hired carpet blowers, as many areas of Mackay and the Whitsundays were left without power, affecting around 63,000 residents.

In the weeks following Cyclone Debbie, while many homes continued their recovery efforts, Shaun and Nicole received significant recognition, they were awarded Franchisee of the Year for the 2016/2017 financial year. This accolade reflects their unwavering commitment to excellence and community service.
